What does sustainability look like when it goes beyond presentations and becomes something people can experience firsthand?
At Fusion 17 in Samal Island, Epson Philippines brought together media partners for a unique journey that blended meaningful conversations, environmental initiatives, and a little adventure. From learning about Epson’s long-term sustainability vision and community programs to taking on island-wide challenges that tested teamwork and adaptability, the event showed how innovation and responsible action can go hand in hand. More than an annual gathering, Fusion 17 became a reminder that lasting impact is built through everyday choices, strong partnerships, and a shared commitment to creating a better future.
Against the backdrop of turquoise waters, swaying palms, and the warm sea breeze of Discovery Samal, Epson Philippines Corporation brought together its media partners for an experience that was far more than a corporate gathering.
Fusion 17 was not just about presentations, product discussions, or company updates. It was about exploring a bigger question: what does sustainability look like when it becomes part of everyday decisions?
Now on its 17th year, Fusion has evolved into one of Epson Philippines' most anticipated annual engagements, serving as a platform where conversations go beyond business and technology. This year's theme, ECOPRINT, challenged participants to view sustainability not as a distant goal, but as a series of practical actions that create lasting impact over time.
The journey began with Epson's Brand Talk, where company leaders shared how sustainability continues to shape the organization's long-term direction under its Engineered Future 2035 vision. Rather than treating environmental responsibility as a separate initiative, Epson presented it as a guiding principle that influences everything from product development and operational processes to community partnerships and customer solutions.
“At Epson, sustainability is part of how we work every day. It guides the way we develop our technologies, run our business, and work with our partners and communities,” said Masako Kusama, President and Director of Epson Philippines Corporation.
Throughout the discussions, Epson highlighted how innovation and sustainability are increasingly interconnected. From its Heat-Free technology to energy-efficient printing solutions, the company demonstrated how businesses can improve productivity while reducing energy consumption and resource use.
But Fusion 17 was not confined to conference rooms.
The stories shared during the sessions came to life through real-world examples. Epson showcased its growing environmental initiatives, including workplace recycling programs, waste segregation efforts, and its employee-led Trash to Treasure campaign. In fiscal year 2025 alone, Epson Philippines collected more than 1,100 kilograms of plastic waste and over 1,100 kilograms of shredded paper for recycling and upcycling.
The company also highlighted partnerships that extend beyond its own offices, including its collaboration with WWF-Philippines in Pio Duran, Albay. The initiative focuses on improving waste collection systems, strengthening plastic recycling efforts, and helping local communities build long-term waste management capabilities.
Another key initiative featured during Fusion was Epson's Corporate Waste Collection Program, which started in Davao before expanding to Cebu. The program helps channel partners properly collect, dispose of, and recycle used consumables and other waste materials, reinforcing the company's commitment to responsible resource management.
Then came one of the most memorable parts of the event.
Media participants stepped away from presentations and into the island itself through "Conquer the Elements: The Samal Challenge," an interactive adventure designed around teamwork, adaptability, and problem-solving. Groups navigated various stations scattered across Samal Island, tackling challenges inspired by the forces of nature while discovering different corners of the destination.
The activity transformed sustainability from a discussion into an experience. It reflected the same principles that Epson had been talking about all day: collaboration, resilience, creativity, and the ability to adapt to changing environments.
As the sun set over Samal Island, Fusion 17 left participants with more than just insights about technology and sustainability. It offered a reminder that meaningful change rarely happens through a single breakthrough. Instead, it is built through consistent action, strong partnerships, and everyday choices made by individuals, organizations, and communities working toward a common goal.
In many ways, that was the real story of Fusion 17.
Not simply a gathering. Not merely a business event.
But a shared journey that demonstrated how innovation, responsibility, and collaboration can come together to create lasting impact.
