Children from various underprivileged communities will learn about the rich history and culture of Europe by learning more about European popular pastimes, literature, and art.

This children's festival forms part of Viva Europa 2018 which highlights the European Year of Cultural Heritage and the partnership and friendship between the European Union and the Philippines.

“Together with EU Member States embassies and cultural institutes and Museo Pambata, it is an honour for us to be able again, as we have done for the last ten years, to spearhead this cultural exchange for children between the European Union and the Philippines ", says Ambassador Franz Jessen, head of the EU delegation to the Philippines.

“Children are at the very centre of this event because we believe that as children are educated, they are better equipped to become tomorrow’s leaders. We are grateful to even play a small part in that.”

The activities are presented by the EU Delegation to the Philippines, the Embassies of Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy through the Philippine Italian Association, Netherlands, Spain and Instituto Cervantes and Sweden.  Students from the University of the Philippines (UP EURO) and Lyceum University of the Philippines (LPU –PAIR) also take part by volunteering their time and sharing their knowledge of European languages and culture with the children.

Lakbayin Natin ang EU will feature cultural presentations, games, art activities, and country displays by the participating EU representatives.

Meanwhile, the EU Delegation to the Philippines shall also launch an on-the-spot drawing contest at the Museo Pambata.  The contest will also be held on May 24, open to all Filipino children aged 9 to 12 years old and are enrolled in public or private schools in Metro Manila.

The theme of the art contest is “Europa, Kaibigan ko ito" (Europe, my friend and partner,” and will be evaluated by a panel of judges composed of respected artists and officials from the EU Delegation to the Philippines.

Criteria for judging include: relevance to theme - 50%, technique - 25%, and composition - 25%. In the spirit of fairness, the competition will be held on the spot for a maximum of three hours with a required medium and materials (pastel colors on illustration board measuring 18” x 24”).  Participants will be requested to provide their own materials but details will be announced in the EU Delegation FB.

A total of five winners will be chosen from the entries, and each will receive a trophy and a medal plus special prizes and freebies from the EU Delegation to the Philippines. Winning artworks will be exhibited at Museo Pambata during the week following the awarding ceremony.
