Arsenio Paguirigan, Head of Sterling Bank of Asia’s Clearing Operations Group and a veteran banker, was elected as COCI trustee for the second straight year. Paguirigan has been with Sterling Bank of Asia for over nine years.

The COCI, established in 1981, is composed of clearing officers from different banks which primarily aims to promote professionalism among its members through intensive study of established bank check clearing procedures and functions.

Sterling Bank of Asia is the only independent savings bank with a trustee among the COCI members, and we are grateful that Mr. Paguirigan gained the trust and confidence of this reputable group,” Cecilio Paul San Pedro, President and CEO of Sterling Bank of Asia, said.

COCI spearheaded the integration of banks in the country into the check clearing process of the Philippine Clearing House Corp., a private company co-equally owned by all commercial banks―including Sterling Bank of Asia―enlisted as members of the Bankers Association of the Philippines, and which applied the first automated MICR check clearing house in South East Asia.

Mr. Paguirigan’s re-election as a trustee embodies our commitment to ensure the integrity and efficiency of check transactions, to put a premium to excellent customer experience, and to contribute in the overall facilitation of a top-quality banking system in this country,” San Pedro said.

Other member banks of the COCI Board of Directors are Metrobank, BDO Unibank, Bank of the Philippine Islands, ING Bank, RCBC Savings Bank, Philippine Bank of Communication, Land Bank of the Philippines, Bank of Commerce, Development Bank of the Philippines and Security Bank.
