It’s going to be a cut-throat battle for historic beauty pageant firsts. 25 year old Cebuana finance analyst Kris Tiffany Janson will be competing in Maritim Hotel and Congress, Magdeburg, Germany to hopefully become the first Filipina Miss Intercontinental. On the other side of Europe in Krynica-Zdrój, Poland, 21 year old Certified Public Accountant from Bicol, Yvethe Santiago guns for a back-to-back victory for the Philippines, following the crowning of Johanna Datul as Miss Supranational in 2013.

Yvethe meanwhile dazzled onstage in Miss Fashion World 2014, Poland’s prestigious fashion week, wearing an elegant silver Filipiniana terno last November 29. Yvethe wowed European audiences in the Best Body Competition and the Miss Supranational Fashion and Talent Show.
With only a few days leading up to their respective pageants, the girls are fully excited and geared up to represent the Philippines in the world stage. Yvethe shares, “It really is an overwhelming experience to see my dream come to life… From joining pageants in Bicol, to winning in Binibini, to finally carrying the flag in Miss Supranational. I can’t wait to make the country proud.” Kris confidently shares, “I have prepared and prayed for a long time for this, and I can’t wait ‘till pageant night to perform all that I’vetrained for. With the guidance of God, I hope to bring home the crown.”
Filipinos can help the girls boost their chances in the competition through online voting. hackathon
At the course of each participants can enjoy breaks by taking lunch and dinner at the venue. A good time to stretch, charge their brains or mingle with their fellow participants. To keep the boost, free-flowing booze was provided, all they need to do is fill-up the red cup.
To sum up the first day of DevCup, it was a busy day for everyone, and a productive day too. It seems that majority of the teams already got the concept of what the theme(Insights) is about. The actual challenge is how they are going to put their knowledge and expertise into good use, producing an app that is inline with the given theme, plus making the judges understand what they just built, is what it really is.
DevCup 2014 Insights to Day 1 of the hackathon
If you have a chance to create an app to help your people, what app will you create and which problem or set problems will it resolve?
DevCup 2014 is the perfect venue to create one. And based from today's number of participants they all want to create one that even regular people can benefit from.
DevCup 2014 Officially started today at the Meralco Multi-Purpose Hall in Ortigas. This is a two-day hackathon event made to highlight developers in creating an app that can be put to daily use. The team behind WebGeek and DevCup felt that they are on the right track as they top notch again last year's attendance.
![]() |
Are you up for the DevCup 2014 challenge? No raising of white flags here |
This is WebGeek's 3rd year in producing Dev Cup. This year's DevCup theme is entitled INSIGHTS. The participants were challenged to create their own app using any programming language they find useful in creating their obra maestra. They are given only two days to finish and present it to the judges.
A hackathon like DevCup is an avenue for Developers to showcase not only their skills in coding and building a great app, but also enhances their creativity in putting the end-product into good use. DevCup by WebGeek Philippines is different in a sense that it doesn't need to be limited. The theme was set to help the participants have a goal that is in uniform with their rival teams, but shouts out their own style and how they vision it their geeky minds so to speak.
At the course of each participants can enjoy breaks by taking lunch and dinner at the venue. A good time to stretch, charge their brains or mingle with their fellow participants. To keep the boost, free-flowing booze was provided, all they need to do is fill-up the red cup.

Samsung Digital Gallery
SamsungPH & Yuchengco Museum in Relative Realities
What do you think will happen if you mix hand-made art and mobile technology through augmented reality? Relative Realities!
Thursday August 7 at the Yuchengco Museum, RCBC building Makati, Samsung Electronics Philippines and Yuchengco Museum present Relative Realities: Digital Art Experience to the member of the online community: bloggers and media personalities alike.
Attendees were invited to download an android app that will take them to another dimension on how art should be look at using modern-day technology.
This is the first time that a museum asked us to use our mobile phone while we're about the see the art gallery and figures inside. Of course, we became curious at first, because the usual trips we had back in the days, is to simply focus our attention to the museum staff who will give us some history and interesting facts about a certain painting or art form.
But those days can be considered a thing of the past as Yuchengco Museum and Samsung Philippines join forces in taking the first leap in providing the masses a taste of what lies ahead. Thus Relative Realities came into place.
Relative Realities: Creating New Dimensions of Art through Technology, is a month-long exhibit, the first of its kind in the Philippines, is supplemented by a mobile app and Samsung Digital Gallery at the museum.
Samsung Electronics Philippines Corporation (SEPCO) shows its continuous support for the arts by partnering with Yuchengco Museum and provided Ultra High Definition Smart TVs and tablets to bring the digital experience right in front of its viewers.
Through the use of FACETS(Futuristic Art Creations Enabled by TVs and Smart devices) app, an android app that makes use of augmented reality, we were taken into a different dimension as our eyes were opened with something new.
Scanning an artwork with an Android smartphone or tablet loaded with the FACETS app, information about the work and the artist can be accessed by simply touching the points shown through the app. Some even 3D graphics, video, animation, or sound. Facets is developed by Samsung Philippines.
Imagine the possibilities and future innovations this will help open. Possibilities that will be unlocked in the upcoming years. A revolutionary move that empowers our artist to deliver their art and creations to the digital world and to the younger generation.
“We want to break the practice where the museum’s curatorial direction of an exhibition collection sets the pace for the appreciation and understanding of art. Would not art be best understood in the pureness of subjectivity—where the artist presents and the viewers formulate their own understanding and experience of the artwork?” shares Jeannie Javelosa, curator of Yuchengco Museum.

Relative Realities is a collaboration between one of the world’s most recognized technology brands(Samsung) and one of the country’s most trailblazing museums, Yuchengco Museum. The Relative Realities art exhibit features the artworks of six especially invited Filipino artists from a wide range of creative practices: printmaker Ambie Abaño, painter Ernest Concepcion, painter Jason Montinola, sculptor Leeroy New, visual artist Arturo Sanchez Jr., and multimedia and performance artist Josephine Turalba.
Relative Realities is open to the public at Yuchengco Museum until September 8, 2014. The Yuchengco museum is located at RCBC Plaza, corner Ayala and Sen. Gil J. Puyat Avenues, Makati. Museum hours are Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can enjoy this new digital experience for just 100, but for students it will just be for PHP50. Don't forget to bring your mobile phones and tablets with you! After the month-long exhibit, the artworks highlighted in Relative Realities and select pieces from the Yuchengco Museum Collection will be incorporated into the new Samsung Digital Gallery at the museum’s third floor. The space will offer visitors an opportunity to create new human experiences where they can interact and learn more about the artworks they see at the museum. The Samsung Digital Gallery is due to open to the public in September 2014.
Relative Realities: Creating New Dimensions of Art through Technology is on view at Yuchengco Museum from August 7 to September 8, 2014.
