No Credit/Debit Card? Grab reintroduces Cash-in via Driver, cashless payment adoption for public transportation

As the country looks towards a safe and sustainable economic recovery, transportation remains a key factor for many Filipinos to perform their essential activities. With public transportation adopting cashless payments, many Filipinos require help to fully embrace this new way of paying cashless for their everyday commute – and Grab is introducing a solution to address just that.

Cash-in via Grab Driver

As a regular and long-time Grab patron, we've seen this in the past, where you pay your driver to top-up your Grab Wallet. It's not something new, but like the others, we haven't taken advantage of this feature. Now, during this pandemic, cashless transactions are highly recommended and a required means when you ride using a public transportation.

The Cash in via Driver feature, is perfect if you don't have a debit/credit card or Grabpay wallet yet. Then the  Driver Grab Driver/Rider will help onboard customers on the Grabpay virtual wallet.  Complete your profile and the usual KYC(Know your Customer) required to setup so that it will be easier to top up once you Grab Wallet. You can also use PayMaya or Gcash on your next top up.

It's still better way than the paying in cash, on each and every ride. As it allows you to store cash credits to your Grab Wallet. Also, every time you use GrabPay it allows you to get perks and more points compared to cash transactions

Fully rolled-out by November 2020 through an updated version of the Grab app, Cash-in with Driver allows cash-paying commuters to enjoy safe and reliable GrabCar services by simply activating their GrabPay wallets during the ride, paying cash to their drivers, and receive their change credited to their GrabPay wallets.

With GrabCar drivers spurring the cashless movement through Cash-in with Driver, cash-paying commuters can easily transition towards cashless and unlock the many benefits that GrabPay has to offer – from GrabRewards points that can be used to save on Grab transactions, dedicated deals and promotions, as well as safe and seamless cashless payments across GrabPay’s wide array acceptance partners.

“With many of our kababayans required to physically be present in their workspaces and offices, transportation remains key in effectively driving safe and sustainable economic recovery for our communities and our country. Through this innovation, we hope to help ease the cashless barrier for our commuters by enjoining our driver-partners to not only provide a safe and reliable means of transportation, but to also help more Filipino commuters embrace cashless payment, and unlock the many benefits that await them with GrabPay”, says Ronald Roda, Grab Philippines Head of Transport and Shared Services.

Cash-in with Driver will be available on GrabCar 2-seater and 4-seater in Metro Manila, GrabBayanihan Car, GrabCar 2-Seater in Cebu and Pampanga, and soon on GrabTaxi.
