Teachers’ appreciation day, Remainders Fair at Phil. Academic Book Fair

Two major events will highlight the 22nd Philippine Academic Book Fair presented by the Academic Booksellers Association of the Philippines (ABAP) on June 20 – 23 at the Megatrade Hall 1 in SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City.

Over a hundred teachers will convene for the first ever “Break Time: Teacher’s Appreciation Day,” on June 23, at 1 p.m. where they will be treated to beauty makeovers, workshops, and talks about grooming and wellness, and raffle prizes hosted by Mary Kay Philippines.  This event honors all educators, teachers, and mentors for their hard work throughout the school year.

"Every year we come up with new ways on how to be able to make this book fair a success, and this year, we decided we also wanted to say thank you to the teachers not just for helping us in our business, but more importantly, for their contribution towards Philippine education,” states Jovita de Jesus, auditor of ABAP and President of F&J De Jesus, Inc..

Also for the first time this year, the last day of the Philippine Academic Book Fair is designated as the Remainders Fair, wherein all participating booths will showcase a special sale with discounts as high as 70 percent to 95 percent.

Books from various disciplines, including the sciences, mathematics, philosophy, psychology, among others can be purchased for as low as ₱500 from an original price of ₱10,000 so they can be availed by more students, teachers, parents, and educational institutions. 

“This is the time to buy good quality, relevant books from all disciplines,” notes Dina Berioso, Academic Booksellers Association of the Philippines (ABAP) treasurer of and the President and General Manager of IBC Infotech Inc.

While the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Department of Education (DepEd) requires at least 20 percent of the core book collection of a library must have been published within the last 10 years, some titles available at the fair are not affected by recency such as books in Mathematics or in English.

“CHED and DepEd’s recent policies of books for accreditation processes have certain requirements for year published but they do not require 100% of the collection to be recent,” Berioso added.

The event showcases academic books, references, Filipiniana and Catholic books, magazines, journals, educational video and audio materials, publishing aids, electronic references and other materials for academic institutions from more than 20 different exhibitors. Co-organized by Primetrade Asia Inc., the 22nd Philippine Academic Book Fair offers up-to-date materials at lower prices. Admission is free.
